Health is wealth, that’s what many people are saying. But how do we actually check if our health is still on the “wealth” side? These days, there are a lot of products, or wearables, that make it easier to monitor our overall wellness, from smartwatches to fitness bands. But recently, a new form factor has been gaining attention: smart rings.

Like this mWell ECG Ring. It’s a smart ring that measures vital signs, tracks sleep, and even monitors heart rhythms through ECG readings. It’s also being positioned as the country’s first wellness ring with built-in ECG monitoring, something that instantly makes it stand out in a market dominated by wrist-based devices.

Yes, it’s simple and packed with features, but does it actually get the job done? Let’s find out.

What’s in the Box

Unboxing the mWell ECG Ring is a straightforward experience, and it reflects the product’s overall approach, simple and focused.

Opening the box, you’re immediately greeted by the ring itself, neatly placed in a protective foam cutout. Alongside it is a card from mWell that features a QR code and manual, which links to a video guide on how to use the device. This is a nice touch, especially for first-time users who may not be familiar with smart rings.

Underneath, you’ll find the charging dock and a USB-A to USB-C cable. The charging solution is basic but effective, just place the ring on the dock and it starts charging. There’s nothing overly fancy here, but everything you need is included.

Design and Comfort

Design and comfort actually matter on smart rings, and the mWell ECG Ring performs well in both areas.

At first glance, it looks more like a fashion accessory than a piece of technology. The gold and silver two-tone finish gives it a premium look that can easily match different styles. It’s subtle enough to wear daily and can even elevate your accessory side.

That said, the transition between the gold and silver finishes isn’t perfectly seamless. It’s a small detail, but something you might notice if you’re particular about aesthetics.

On the inner part of the ring, you’ll find the sensors, the mWell branding, the size marking, and the internal chip. Everything is neatly integrated, and the sensors maintain good contact with the skin for consistent readings.

The ring is available in sizes ranging from 7 (55.58 mm circumference) to 13 (70.65 mm circumference), which should cover most users. In my case, I used a size 10, and while it fit my ring finger well, according to the mWell team, the recommended placement for better accuracy is actually the index finger. This is something to consider when choosing your size.

In terms of comfort, it’s generally good, though slightly bulkier than a typical ring. If you’re not used to wearing rings, you’ll definitely feel it at first. Wearing it alongside other rings can also feel a bit cramped.

On the durability side, the IP68 water resistance rating is a big plus. You can wear it while washing your hands, showering, or even swimming without any issues. In real-world use, it held up well and didn’t show any problems when exposed to water.

Health Monitoring

The main selling point of the mWell ECG Ring is its health monitoring capabilities, and for its size, it offers a surprisingly comprehensive set of features.

It can track ECG readings, heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen levels, and sleep patterns. These are all essential metrics for anyone who wants a better understanding of their overall health.
